How to join a walk.
We operate an advance booking system, as such ALL WALKERS MUST contact the walk leader in advance to book a place. You will be asked for your name and contact details.
On occasions the walk leader may limit the number of places available. If the maximum number of places is reached the phrase “WAITING LIST” will appear in the online entry (rather than “BOOKING NEEDED”). However, you are encouraged to contact the walk leader so that your name can be added to the waiting list. The walk leader will use the waiting list to replace any cancellations on a first come, first served basis.
Taster walks: You do not have to be a member of Ramblers to come on one of our walks, new comers are always welcome. After three walks with the group if you enjoy what we would ask that you join the Ramblers. You are welcome to come on a taster walk or two before deciding.
Car sharing: Richmondshire Ramblers are happy to support car sharing at the discretion of members; please advise the walk leader if you require a lift. Passengers usually give a (voluntary) contribution towards travel costs. To facilitate car sharing, an informal WhatsApp group has been set up for members in the Richmond area to seek or offer lifts amongst themselves. If you’d like to join this group, please contact Sarah on 07590 671868.
Start time: The start time is the departure time, so please arrive 10 or so minutes beforehand. The length and duration of a walk is approximate.
Equipment: Please ensure you are well equipped with suitable footwear and waterproof clothing: contact the leader well before the walk if you have any doubts. It is a good idea to check the weather forecast beforehand.
Cancellation of a walk:
• In the event that you cannot attend the walk on the day, please notify the walk leader.
• If the leader cancels the walk then you will be notified by phone / email. Also the walk will be cancelled on the website.
• We recommend walkers check our website for any changes.
Children: are welcome to join our walks but must be accompanied by their parent/carer who must take full responsibility for them. Please contact the leader to discuss if the walk is suitable.
Dogs: Sorry, only Assistance Dogs are welcome. This is due to most of our walking being on open moor and farm land where there are nesting birds and livestock.
Cattle: Leaders cannot guarantee whether or not cattle will be encountered. As such assume this may be the case.
Mud: We assume that walkers are aware the countryside can be muddy after rain so we do not put this on the programme.
Refreshments: You should assume there is no pub or café stop if none is mentioned, so please bring food and drink, but never consume these on the premises.
Photographs: Some members like to take photographs on the walks, which often appear on our website. Please advise the leader should you not wish to appear in a photograph.
What to bring:
• A rucksack
• A packed lunch snacks and drink.
• A personal first aid kit, hand sanitiser and face covering just in case there is an incident.
• Waterproofs, hat and gloves.
• Change of shoes and bag for muddy boots.
