Gollinglith Foot to the Leeds Pals memorial and Colsterdale – 8 miles
12 walkers met at Golinglith Foot on a warm Sunday morning for Mike’s walk through Colsterdale . Our lovely route had plenty of historical interest. We arrived at the Leeds Pals memorial for coffee time; This was the site of the Breary Banks Navvy Camp for reservoir construction, later a training camp in 1914 for the Leeds Pals Battalion who later suffered devastating losses on the Somme. The forecast hot sunshine mostly stayed behind clouds and we enjoyed a comfortable stroll through quiet Colsterdale with only a few adventurous sheep sharing our path!
