Wensleydale, 25th October 2020

A cool breeze greeted 11 walkers as they set off from West Witton for a 10.5 mile circular walk. The short climb onto High Lane was rewarded with panoramic views over upper Wensleydale with Addlebrough clearly visible. After a brief stop at the Knights Templars Preceptory, we continued along Spring Bank to West Burton and Cauldron Falls. The return route passed Flanders Hall and Sorrelsykes Park to Hestholme Bridge, then along the banks of the river Ure to Low Wanlass and into West Witton by Back Lane. Redmire Force was in full spate and the autumn colours were quite magnificent. A kingfisher, mallard ducks, heron and kestrel were seen at various points along the river bank. Acorns, holly and hawthorn berries were in abundance along with a variety of fungi whilst in the field verges there was the occasional pink splash Herb Robert.
