A classic Dales walk starting from Gunnerside, heading towards Muker and then ascending to Crackpot Hall, Lowenthwaite returning via Gunnerside Beck - 10 miles
Ten walkers met at Gunnerside on a somewhat overcast and chilly June day. We followed the River Swale to Rampsholme Bridge with a stunning show of orchids along the way, then onward to Swinner Gill where we stopped for lunch. As we headed up the steep climb of Swinner Gill we had a short downpour of rain but this was quickly forgotten when we spotted a Red Kite flying overhead. Following the Coast to Coast path we headed towards Blakethwaite Dam and followed the path down Gunnerside Gill veering off to the Neolithic settlements at the Winterings and dropping back into Gunnerside for a well earned drink at the Kings Head.
