Starting from Mainsgill Farm Shop, the route follows field paths which link the villages of Ravensworth, Dalton, Gayles and Kirby Hill - 9 miles
Eleven walkers set off from Mainsgill Farm Shop across field tracks to Ravensworth, with views of the castle. Then on through a noisy farm yard to Dalton via Gayles Fields. Leaving the village past Dalton Mill to Throstle Gill and then into Gayles, where lunch was taken under the trees. Leaving Gayles past Gayles Hall, climbing up to Gayles quarry via Hergill lane to Kirby Hill. Then downhill back into Ravensworth and back to Mainsgill. We contended with varied weather, wet tracks, return of muddy boots and waterproofs were tested ! But spirits were not dampened. Good views, although not quite as clear as we had hoped. Plenty of wildlife encouragement from the cuckoo, curlews and sky lark. Mainsgill provided a welcome dry place for a drink and sugar boost for some.
