17th March 2024 - Nidderdale Way Part 1

Following the Nidderdale Way from Ripley  to Cayton Gill, High Kettle Spring Farm and Shaw Mills. Then leaving the NDW to cross the River Nidd at New Bridge where we pick up the NDW back to Ripley via BIrstwith, Hampsthwaite and Clint - 11.5 miles.

As predicted, muddy boots were  the order of the day for the 10 walkers who completed the first stage of the Nidderdale Way. Initially low cloud obscured the views  over towards  Harrogate but by lunchtime the sun was shining and the temperature rose.  En-route we saw two roe deer,  a couple of red kites, quite a few primroses and cowslips. Whilst having lunch we were entertained by a small flock of lapwings performing  acrobatic air displays. A short sharp climb to Clint,  was rewarded with extensive views south to Menwith Hill and Stainburn Moor. A swift half at  The Boar's Head, Ripley was made even more enjoyable as we were able to sit outside in the sunshine.
