Upper Wharfedale - 4th August 2024

From Buckden car park  the route follows the Dales Way to Hubberholme, Yockenthwaite and Deepdale,   returning  via Little House, Scar
House and Cray - 9 miles

Nine walkers set off from Buckden  car park and walked down to Hubberholme on the Dales Way. We had a brief stop at the church to enable those who wanted to admire the work of Robert “Mouseman” Thompson on the pews and choir stalls. J.B. Priestley is also buried in the churchyard and he was a regular visitor to the nearby iconic pub, The George. We continued on to Yockenthwaite, stopping at the farm which is Helen’s home in All Creatures Great & Small. Yockentwaite farm is also where Yockenthwaite Farm granola started in the farmhouse kitchen. It is now a thriving business now based in Skipton from where it supplies numerous outlets.

After this we crossed the old packhorse bridge and following the river along to Deepdale , where we crossed another bridge and headed back to Yockentwaite. Here we climbed up above the dale and followed the path along to Little House and Scar House, with fabulous views along Langstrothdale and Wharfdale. We dropped down into Cray, crossed the stepping stones and climbed up the bank towards Buckden Pike. On reaching the ridge we turned right along the path before dropping back down into Buckden.

We ended up in the Buck for a well earned drink!

The weather was kind to us and we all had an excellent day including the two new people that came on their first walk.
