Following  the Pennine Journey  from Balderhead Reservoir onto Goldsborough. Then across open moorland to Shacklesborough  returning via the west end of Balderhead Reservoir and minor road back to the cars. - 10.5 miles

Starting from Balderhead  Reservoir, nine members and three guests faced a bracing breeze, sunshine and blue skies.  We followed the Pennine Way passing through  Hannah’s Meadows  Nature Reserve, farmland and open moorland onto the top of Goldsborough.  From Goldsborough we could see Shacklesborough our next destination some 5 km to the west.  The walk across open moorland was rough in places but surprising dry underfoot given the snow and rainfall of the two previous weeks. Despite the thickening cloud, there was a 360 degree panoramic view from the top of Shacklesborough.  Clearly visible to the west were Blencathera and Clough Head, to the south Great Shunner Fell, Cleasby Hill, Hoove and The Stang Forest. To the east Teesside and to the north Teesdale.

En-route we saw several flocks of lapwing, oystercatcher and swans. Post walk refreshments  at the Rose and Crown in Romaldkirk were enjoyed by all.
