Balderdale 2nd July 2023

From Hury Reservoir there is a steady climb onto Cotherstone Moor and Ladyfold Rigg. Then turning west to Race Yate Rigg to pick up the Pennine Way north to Clove Lodge, Blackton and walk across Balderhead Dam Wall to visit Hannah's Meadows. Returning alongside Blackton and Hury Reservoirs - 10 miles

Grey skies and a stiff breeze didn't deter 12 walkers from enjoying a ten mile circular walk in Balderdale. Starting from Hury Reservoir we headed south to join the Pennine Way to Ladyfold Rigg then west to Race Yate Rigg. Despite light rain showers there were clear views to the south across to Gilmonby Moor and Stainmore Forest. From Race Yate Rigg we headed north to Clove Lodge. Here a walkers' self service cafe was a welcome break out of the wind. From Clove Lodge the route took us through two lovely hay meadows, past Blackton Grange and across Balderhead Reservoir dam wall to Hannah's meadows which were also in full bloom. The return route was via Low Birk Hat Hall and along the shore lines of Blackton and Hury reservoirs. At this point the sun shone and the wind abated. Post walk refreshments were enjoyed at the Rose and Crown, Romaldkirk.
