Reeth-Blades Circular - 6th Nov 2022

Walking from Reeth on footpaths, bridleways, fields and open moorland to Foregill Gate and Blades, returning via Kearton and Healaugh - 9 miles

Hill fog followed by autumn sunshine greeted eleven members and two guests for a walk in Swaledale. Starting at Reeth, a steady climb via Skelgate Lane took us onto open moorland and then over to Foregate Gill. Due to earlier heavy rain, the water splash was fast flowing. There then followed a brief section of road walking and moorland footpath into Blades. The low, thick cloud gave dramatic views up and down the dale. We then followed green lanes and moorland paths eastwards to Gallows Top, Hilltop, Birks Park and Thiernswood Hall into Healaugh. From Healaugh we took the riverside path back into Reeth where a swift half was enjoyed in the King's Head. With mild damp weather there were a lot of fungi in the fields - mainly wax caps whilst as we came into Healaugh, a red kite swooped low in front of us.
